How it all started

1966: Merkúr department store for Košice
The new Merkur department store was opened in Košice.

Another department store was opened in Košice within a short period of time. The Merkúr department store in Božena Nemcová Street was built at a cost of more than 5 million crowns. It sold groceries and industrial goods and provided various business services.

OC Merkúr is the only shopping centre in the immediate vicinity of Košice Technical University. The shopping centre is more than 50 years old. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, a complete renovation of the shopping centre was started in 2016-2017, during which the facade of the shopping centre was renovated, all windows and doors were replaced and, last but not least, a passenger lift, which had been missing until then, was added, allowing barrier-free access to the first floor even for people with limited mobility.
